Becoming a leader by gathering global experiences

I am a proud Native Hawaiian and have a personal affinity for Hawaiʻiʻs beautiful landscape (waterfalls in particular), for deep sea sailing, and for our beautiful cultural heritage as expressed through the arts, food, song, and dance. This year, I was invited to apply and was selected as a Shidler Global Leader by the University of Hawaiʻi. In this capacity, I have served at many Hawaiʻi-based community events and have also had the opportunity to network with alumni and get all dressed up to attend galas as an ambassador. While these are important aspects of being a Shidler Global Leader, the "global" component is one that I will develop this semester as a student in Paris studying International Business at Institut d'Économie Scientifique Et de Gestion or The Institute of Scientific Economics and Management. In collaborating and networking with other students from across the globe, I hope to gain insight and communication skills that will help me to expand my perspective, empathy, and ability to influence, navigate and lead myself and others. I also hope to share my unique cultural perspective with my classmates and colleagues. I look forward to reflecting and sharing key learning experiences throughout my semester en Paris!
